Sound Scholarship Eligibility
Sound Membership
You, the applicant, are a primary owner of a Sound account on or before January 30, 2023.
Academic Merit
You have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher.
High School Senior or Those Pursuing Their Continuing Education
The Sound scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors in good standing and those currently enrolled at a college/university.
The 2023-2024 scholarship application period is now closed.
The application deadline was March 3, 2023.
High School Senior Scholarship Application Instructions
All sections of the application must be completed, and application must be signed to be eligible.
Return the application with the following requirements:
- Copy of applicant’s current high school transcript.
- Information regarding participation in school, community, and/or work activities
- Parent/Guardian’s occupation and employer
- Parent/Guardian’s 2020 and 2021 gross annual income before taxes
- Names of colleges currently attended by children in your family (if any)
- Write a brief cover letter/personal statement (one page maximum, double spaced, 250 words maximum) that addresses each of the following:
- What are your academic and/or professional goals and why?
- How will this scholarship make a difference to you?
- If additional space is needed on the application, please attach a separate document.
Completed scholarship applications must be submitted online on or before Friday, March 3, 2023 to be eligible for consideration.
General Information
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be the primary owner of a Sound account. To be eligible for consideration, the account must be open and active by Monday, January 30, 2023.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior or pursuing continuing education.
- Applicant must have a 3.00 cumulative G.P.A. or higher through senior year of high school.
- Applicant must be a student in good standing.
- Application must be submitted online by Friday, March 3, 2023.
- All Sound Credit Union Board Members, Audit Committee Members, staff, and the immediate family of those listed previously are not eligible.
Amount & Terms of Award
- Up to $20,000 in all Sound Credit Union scholarships may be awarded, each consisting of one (1) grant from $500 to $3,000. Scholarships are awarded one time only and are not renewable.
- All funds disbursed will be made payable to the student’s college or university of choice.
Application Procedure & Deadline
- Complete the online application form at soundcu.com/scholarships by Friday, March 3, 2023.
- Be sure and include a short essay answering the prompt and upload a copy of your high school transcript.
- DEADLINE: All materials and applications are due Friday, March 3, 2023.
Basis of Selection
The selection committee will score scholarship applications based on the six (6) weighted categories below.
- 25% High School Activities & Leadership
- 20% Community Involvement & Work Experience
- 20% Academic Performance
- 15% Essay
- 10% Financial Need
- 10% Length of membership at Sound Credit Union
Other Information
- The selection committee may request to interview applicants in person or by phone.
- Only selected applicants will be notified in writing by Friday, May 19, 2023.
- Family financial information provided will remain confidential.
- Please do not include photographs with application. Only selected recipients will be asked to send a photograph for the website.
- In consideration of this scholarship, no applicant will be discriminated against on the basis of age, national origin, religion, ability, race, color, marital status, gender or sexual orientation.
- By submitting an application, you agree that Sound Credit Union can use your name and photo for publicity purposes unless you specify otherwise.

Continuing Your Education Scholarship Application Instructions

- Student’s name
- The semester(s)/quarter(s) enrolled
- Start and end dates of each semester/quarter
- Status (part time or full-time student)
- Expected graduation term
- Applicant must have a 3.00 cumulative G.P.A or higher.
- Applicant must be a student in good standing.
- Application must be submitted online by Friday, March 3, 2023.
- All Sound Credit Union Board Members, Audit Committee Members, staff, and the immediate family of those listed previously are not eligible.
