TACOMA, Wash. – August 25, 2026
Sound Credit Union (Sound) announced that Seattle-based nonprofit Backpack Brigade is the recipient of proceeds from its 2026 employee fundraising campaign. Held throughout July, Sound employees connected with Sound business partners and local businesses to procure donations. Through their generous support, the fundraiser generated $20,000 to support Backpack Brigade’s mission of providing weekend food to children experiencing food insecurity, helping ensure students have access to nutritious meals when they are away from school.
Founded in 2014, Backpack Brigade provides weekend hunger bags for children experiencing food insecurity. The nonprofit partners with more than 100 schools throughout King County and distributes more than 5,000 hunger-relief bags each week to students who may not have reliable access to food outside of school hours.
“Our community giving efforts focus on financial education, affordable housing, food insecurity and supporting the greater good of the communities we serve,” said Jennifer Reed, Vice President of Public Relations at Sound Credit Union. “Our employees look forward to this fundraiser every year because it allows them to make a direct impact in their communities. After reviewing several deserving organizations, our employees selected Backpack Brigade as this year’s recipient. Knowing this donation will help provide thousands of meals to local children makes us incredibly proud and is a perfect example of how Sound continues to stand with our community through all waves of life.”
Recently, members of Sound’s Community Impact team met with Nichelle Hilton, founder and executive director of Backpack Brigade, to present the donation.
“Sound Credit Union’s partnership is a profound investment in feeding 2,800 children in our community,” said Nichelle Hilton, Executive Director of Backpack Brigade. “Right here, right now. We’re so grateful to call them a partner, and part of the village it takes to make a difference in a child’s life.”
Organizations interested in learning more about Sound’s financial education programs, donations and sponsorship opportunities are encouraged to connect with the Community Impact team. More information is available at soundcu.com/donations.
