Business Beacon: Olympia Master Builders
Olympia Master Builders invest in building strong communities, one home at a time.
Olympia Master Builders (OMB) knows that building strong communities takes more than construction projects and development plans. It takes passionate people, innovative ideas, and a shared commitment to creating places where people can live, work, and thrive. That’s why OMB has become a trusted voice for housing affordability and residential construction across Southwest Washington.
Since its formation, OMB has been shaping the future of the building industry through its focus on advocacy, education, and workforce development. From championing policies that encourage responsible growth to providing valuable learning opportunities and resources, OMB works to support both industry professionals and the communities they serve.

A Leading Voice in Advocacy
Every day, important decisions are made across the region about land use, permitting, infrastructure, and environmental regulations. OMB works to foster strong relationships between industry and government by encouraging open communication and staying actively engaged in policy and regulatory discussions. This proactive approach helps ensure that the community has a voice in the decisions that shape and grow the economy.
“Those decisions don’t just shape policy, they determine whether projects pencil, whether timelines stretch, and ultimately whether families can afford to live in our communities,” said Jessie Simmons, Government Affairs Director.
Builders, developers, and housing professionals have firsthand experience navigating the challenges and opportunities of creating housing, offering insights that go beyond what can be captured in reports and data alone. That’s why OMB created the Housing Opportunities Bus Tour as part of its advocacy efforts, giving policymakers the chance to see firsthand where housing is planned, built, and financed.
By bringing decision-makers directly into the communities they serve, the Bus Tour helps connect policy with reality and highlights how thoughtful planning, diverse housing options, and workforce development all work together to address housing needs.
OMB’s work in advocacy fosters meaningful conversations, builds understanding, and inspires collaborative solutions for the future.
Strengthening Communities through Workforce Development
Through its advocacy work, OMB recognized a growing challenge facing the homebuilding industry: a shortage of skilled workers. To help address this need and invest in the future of industry, OMB established their Education Foundation in 2016. The Foundation’s mission is to inspire interest in construction careers while providing education, support, and opportunities for the next generation of industry professionals.
Since then, the Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to students pursuing education and training in the building industry, opening doors to stable careers and pathways for future success.
Building on that commitment, the Foundation partnered with South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) and United Way in 2025 to launch the Residential Construction Academy, a 10-week certification program held at SPSCC. Through hands-on training, guidance from industry professionals, and support from local workforce leaders, students gain valuable real-world experience and direct connections to family-wage career opportunities.
“Programs like these do more than train workers, they change the trajectory of people’s lives,” said Angela White, Executive Officer. “They create stability for families and help keep our local construction industry strong.”
OMB’s educational resources and programs help meet the region’s growing demand for skilled construction workers, setting up communities for sustainable growth.
Connections that Build Success
In the construction and remodeling industry, strong relationships are key to success. One of the biggest benefits of OMB membership is being part of a trusted network of professionals who support one another through referrals, partnerships, and shared expertise.
Working with fellow members means collaborating with people who are committed to quality, professionalism, and ethical business practices. It also helps strengthen the local building industry by creating opportunities for businesses to grow together.
Through educational programs, networking events, and industry connections, OMB makes it easy for members to build relationships, find trusted partners, and learn from one another. When members succeed together, the entire industry and the communities it serves become stronger.
Banking on a Trusted Partnership
OMB believes in the value of strong relationships, and that includes having the right financial partner. That’s why they are proud to partner with Sound Credit Union.
“Sound Credit Union has been an incredible partner to OMB, supporting our mission not only by giving their time and talents through volunteer service, but also through generous sponsorships,” said Angela. “And, of course, their fantastic customer service makes them a wonderful partner!”
From managing everyday finances, to planning for growth, to looking for expert guidance, Sound is there to help with personalized service and business banking solutions designed to support OMB and their goals.
“We view banking as more than transactions; it’s about building relationships that help businesses and nonprofits succeed,” said Melissa Stone, VP/Branch Manager. “By taking the time to understand each organization’s unique needs, we can provide the support, resources, and expertise that help them grow and serve our communities.”
Together, OMB and Sound share a commitment to helping local businesses grow and thrive, strengthening both the building industry and the communities they serve.
