How Sound Protects Your Account Information Online

Web Encryption/SSL

Sound’s online banking system uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) as the first line of defense for providing secure access your account online. SSL prevents other computers from eavesdropping by encrypting all data transmitted between our site and your computer. Our site requires you to use a browser that supports the highest US security level encryption strength available today for every online transaction. Your browser must be equipped to support and we encourage you to use TLS settings and minimally 128-bit or higher encryption to communicate with our servers.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA is an enhanced security feature that detects any activities that are not typical for your account and prompts you to verify your identity to ensure you are the account holder and not a fraudster. MFA requires the use of a username rather than account number and has you select three account security questions. The security system collects a normal pattern of behavior for you. For example, if you usually access your account from work in the morning and at night from home, this normal behavior pattern is acknowledged by the system. Then, if you ever access Online Banking under new conditions that are not considered to be part of your normal pattern of behavior, you will be asked to answer these security questions.

Sound undergoes annual system and security audits to ensure we’re providing you a safe and secure online banking experience.

How You Can Protect Yourself Online

There are many things you can do to help protect yourself. At a minimum, we recommend you:

  • Be skeptical of any unexpected email message that encourages you to take quick action. Phishing messages often encourage urgent action, either to avoid some inconvenience or negative consequence or to gain something with a limited-time offer.
  • Never click on a link or attachment in a message from an unverified source.
  • Don’t give out personal information in online or offline surveys.
  • Don’t use public computers for sensitive transactions.
  • Set your browser to not save passwords for financial websites.
  • Choose strong passwords, change them periodically, and don’t share them with others.
  • Install anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and keep these programs updated.
  • Don’t use public/unsecure wi-fi connections for sensitive transactions using your personal computer.
  • Use a current web browser, and keep your computer and browser up-to-date with the latest security patches.

Contact us immediately if you receive an email or text message requesting sensitive information (such as Social Security numbers, Telephone Banking PINs, passwords, or account numbers). Sound never requests this type of information by email or text messaging.
